Your TAFE course may help to gain credit towards study at other education and training institutions, such as school and universities. Registered Training Organisations will provide Mutual Recognition for units of competency completed with TAFE NSW.Admission to Australian UniversitiesMost NSW and ACT universities use the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) to process the student applications for admission. Your place at University will be judged on a score allocated to you by UAC. You can visit the UAC website for more information. Higher School Certificate (HSC) students receive an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank). All other students have a score based on, for example, study at TAFE, or work, or community experience. If you did not achieve a high ATAR at school but still want to get to University, a TAFE Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma may help you gain entry to university, and may count for credit towards your degree. TAFE NSW will also be offering Bachelor degrees in the near future, and your TAFE studies will give you credit into a related Bachelor degree at TAFE. Some courses, such as Medicine at the University of Newcastle, have a different method of application and require you to have an interview. You should contact the university for further information about admissions.Credit at Australian UniversitiesThe TAFE NSW Website shows the credit arrangements between TAFE NSW courses and universities in Australia. Scroll down the page to see the course groups for which credit applies. Many Australian universities have agreed to give a minimum of 33% credit in a 3 year degree for students with a relevant Diploma from TAFE. You can only claim the credit once you have been accepted into a course or program at University.Credit at the University of Newcastle
