Your previous TAFE NSW study can count towards your next TAFE course. In some cases, the same modules may be in your new course, or they may be equivalent to the new course modules.
Sometimes, you may need to give us evidence to show that you have maintained your skills and knowledge since doing the study. To find out more, choose the option below that best matches your study.
Recent Study includes courses based on National Training Packages, or under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) since about 1995.
Courses Prior to the AQF (prior to about 1995)
For some older courses, you can apply for a Letter of AQF Equivalence saying how your old TAFE NSW course compares to a new Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level. There is no charge for this service. For example, an old Certificate course might now be considered as equivalent in duration and depth of study to a new Diploma (Level 5) course.
A Letter of AQF Equivalence does not entitle you to claim the AQF qualification. If you wish to gain the current AQF qualification you will need to apply for formal Recognition based on your current skills and knowledge. Fees will apply.

Applying for Recognition of Prior Learning
Credit Transfer Credit Transfer transfers results from one TAFE NSW course to another. If you have completed modules/units or courses with TAFE NSW since about 2000, you may get automatic credit in your new course.
NOTE
: Some older modules/units may not transfer. The content may have changed (eg in taxation law after the introduction of the GST) or because the module/unit may be too old. You can still apply for
Recognition of Prior Learning by giving us more evidence.
What credit can you get? Find out in the Course Credit Estimate Report that you can get from
E-Services. If you do not have a password for E-Services ask at your Campus office, or call or email the Recognition Centre to get a What If Student Record Summary.

Claiming Additional QualificationsCourse Credit Estimate Report
Want to predict your future? We can predict the result of a Credit Transfer application even before you are enrolled in a new TAFE NSW course. You can use
E-Services to get your own Course Credit Estimate Report. But if you don't use the internet, then a What If Student Record Summary that we provide you shows all the possible credit that can be gained based on your previous TAFE NSW results.
To ask us for a prediction, you will need to tell us the new course number, and provide your name, and date of birth, so that we can find your old TAFE NSW records. If you have changed your name, we will need proof of this.
Contact us to apply for a What If Student Record Summary into a new course.
Enrolling in Additional Courses
In most cases you will pay a one-semester enrolment fee to get a second qualification. You can find out about current TAFE course fees on the Fees and Charges page on this Website.
Embedded Testamur
If you can't complete your current course, but have enough modules to finish a lower level course, then you can apply for Embedded Testamur. This costs $75.
Contact us or your Student Services section to see if you can complete a course by Embedded Testamur. You can also get an Embedded Testamur if you completed enough modules/units while studying another course, even if this was a few years ago.
