Applying for Recognition - Work and Life Experiences

Enrolled TAFE NSW student - I want RPL for some units in my course

Trades Recognition - I want to have my trades experience recognised to gain a licence

100% Recognition - I want to get full Recognition in a current TAFE course.

TAFE NSW recognises the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) units of competency, qualifications and statements of attainment issued by all Registered Training Organisations in Australia. You can apply for Recognition at any time during your course. You don't have to study the units in your course for which you receive Recognition. Advanced standing is granted for these units and this counts towards your course completion.

Fees

You will pay no extra fee to apply for Recognition if you wait until you are already enrolled and undertaking study. You can apply for upfront assessment before you are enrolled, although you will have to pay a fee for this.  People who believe they may qualify for a whole course by Recognition can apply for 100% Recognition through the Recognition Centre. Fees are payable for this service.

If you would like to ask us for a Recognition Package for one or more units or modules in your TAFE course, contact us.

We will send you:

  • Unit guides or module learning outcomes
  • Application form
  • Instruction brochure

To send this information it is essential that you provide us with:

  • Your Name
  • Current Address
  • Course Number for the course you are undertaking
  • Unit codes or module numbers for which you wish to receive recognition

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can gain Recognition if you can give us evidence to show that your study, work or life experience has helped you to learn the full range of skills and knowledge of a module/unit. Your evidence is the key to Recognition.

You can be granted modules/units based on your University, or other, study if the subjects or courses you have passed match the content of the TAFE module/unit. You will need to provide a certified copy of your transcript, and an outline of the content of your units of study. Remember, some courses qualify for Mutual Recognition or Pre-Arranged RPL.
