The Hunter Institute's Purrimaibahn Aboriginal Education and Training Unit provides Aboriginal communites and individual students with advice and guidance on TAFE programs.
The Purrimaibahn Unit works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to identify educational and training needs by developing Individual Education Plans to properly assess and identify the right course for students. The Unit provides support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in all aspects of learning including tutorial support, personal development and career development.
The Purrimaibahn Unit is committed to establishing partnerships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and organisations. Purrimaibahn is able to deliver training which incorporates an Aboriginal perspective.
The Unit provides information and advice in a number of areas including:
- Choosing the right course
- Career and training plans
- Accommodation
- Referrals and provides general support for students enrolled in courses throughout the Institute.
