NSW Consumer Support and Training 

NSW Consumer Support and Training Project has been operational for over 15 years. The Project can provide on site training, regional workshops and support activities for Disability Services throughout NSW and the ACT.

Training can be provided for workers with a disability and support staff within the disability sector.

Current training available:

• Understanding EBA and conduct of Independent Vote

We will tailor make programs to suit your specific training and/or support needs for both Consumers and Staff.

All NSW Consumer Support & Training Project services can be provided as a FEE FOR SERVICE to Consumers and staff by a team of highly experienced Training Consultants.

At times funding is provided for the free delivery of training programs and these are advertised on the NDS Website as well as on this site.

Considerable savings can be made by scheduling training session at a number of Services in specific regions and sharing the travel costs.

 Training Programs  
Prevention of Violence in Disability Services Training Program This program is delivered as a workshop for support staff working in the disability sector throughout NSW.
This program has been designed to raise awareness of occupational health and safety legislation and identification of safe work practices, in terms of addressing violence in the workplace and, more importantly, the prevention of violent behaviour through education.

12 Disability Service Standards Consultations

The Consultation Sessions provide training on the 12 Disability Service Standards, the evidence to prove compliance and the process that audit teams may use during Consumer participation in the audit process.

Experienced Consumer Support and Training Consultants will facilitate discussions on the 12 Disability Standards to:
• help promote understanding of the Standards
• encourage participation in the Audit Process
• identify evidence of compliance
• suggest areas for improvement for Consumers, Advocates and Carers

Internal Audit Consumer Focus Groups Our independent training consultant will gather Consumer feedback for your internal audit by:
• conducting a Consumer Focus Group
• carrying out one-to-one interviews with Consumers
• providing a report of Consumers responses to service management
Internal Audit Surveys
Consumer feedback can also be obtained through surveys. We can:
• provide surveys for distribution
• collate Survey Responses
• forward a report to service management

TAFE Accredited Committee Training

Learn how to run a meeting .... and get TAFE Qualifications.

The training will include:
• what is a committee?
• what are the roles of committee members?
• how to organise a meeting
• how to run a meeting
• how to take minutes at a meeting

Accident Response

First Aid logo

Accident Response Training is a pre-first aid course.  It provides the participants with the basic concepts of first aid and teaches Consumers about 'DRABAC' Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation.
Safety Committee Training for Consumers Specifically developed for consumers to enable them to participate and contribute in safety committee meetings at their workplace.  It includes TAFE accreditation for the meetings module.
