These days, there are different learning pathways for nearly every occupation. You can start learning job specific skills at school in a TVET or Industry Framework course, and can even do a School Based Traineeship or Apprenticeship. When you leave school, you can follow a training pathway with TAFE or other vocational provider, get a job first, or you can go straight into university study. For many TAFE courses, your HSC results will give you credits that may mean you finish your course more quickly, or have fewer subjects to study.
Even if you didn't go to Year 12, there are many TAFE courses that can help you gain the skills and knowledge to get a great job, or even end up studying at university. With a TAFE learning pathway, you can often get credit for a year or more in a university course. And that can save you a lot of money!
Your TAFE course may equip you to enter the workplace for the first time, or to gain well paid and highly respected paraprofessional positions, and in some cases, membership of industry associations. TAFE courses have lower class sizes, and can offer the individual help that may bring you greater success in learning. So check out the Learning Pathways on offer in the attached booklet and remember, there are many different paths on the way to learning.
If you left school some time ago, and have been working for at least four years, then you can use the pathways in reverse to find out what qualifications are related to your job. You might be able to gain that qualification based on Recognition of learning on the job.
