History, Structure and Activity
The Recognition Centre of TAFE NSW - Hunter Institute was established in 1995, after responsibility for assessment of applications for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) was delegated to TAFE institutes. The Recognition Centre helps the Hunter Institute to meet its Australian Quality Training Framework obligations regarding the provision of RPL.
The Centre is staffed by a Senior Education Officer and an Administrative Assistant on a full-time basis and is open all year.
The Recognition Centre processes all applications for Recognition of Prior Learning for the Institute's 15 campuses, and over 50,000 students. Each year, we process about 13,000 individual module exemptions based on work experience as evidence. Over 200 of the Institute's teaching staff carry out the assessment of the applications.
