Smiling student
If you love numbers then an accounting course is for you. Offering courses in all areas of accounting, TAFE NSW prides itself on the quality students it trains.
Accounts administration - this is where you would cut your teeth in the accounting world. Many school leavers, people changing careers or entering the workforce may start here.
Accounts Administration clerks are sometimes known as accounts payable or accounts receivable clerks and not only are you responsible for accounts payable but also to ensure that your income and expenses are accounted for. Other tasks could include petty cash, payroll and preparing simple reports. A course in Accounts Administration will help to understand manual and computerised accounting functions.
Bookkeepers will perform slightly more senior tasks again and have a qualification in Bookkeeping. Generally, a bookkeeper will have delegation to: approve payment of accounts and wages; reconcile accounts; move funds between ledgers; prepare reports to management; and prepare and submit the Business Activity Statement to the Australian Tax Office.

You can also study a Diploma of Accounting, Advanced Diploma of Accounting or Associate Degree of Accounting with TAFE NSW - if this is your choice then you love the sound of analysing reports and providing advice to management or boards about the financial health of a company.
If you still are not quite sure on your career path, why not take our test at to see what career area might suit you!
