The Hunter Institute of Technology Foundation is a joint partnership between Hunter business, education and community leaders committed to supporting education and training at Hunter Institute by helping students achieve their goals.
The Foundation had its origins in the Newcastle Technical and Further Education Committee Trust Fund which accepted its first donations from BHP in 1936. It was established to attract community involvement in, and financial support for, the pursuit of excellence in technical and further education.
Hunter Institute has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a mobile instructional unit from the government’s Technical Education Branch, designed to meet the local community needs of returned servicemen and local farmers, enabling them to learn a trade. Since then Hunter Institute has continued to meet local training needs through two world wars and subsequent rapid technological, industrial and social change. The Foundation provides an essential adjunct to Hunter Institute, sponsoring and promoting students to help them maximise their potential and in turn enhancing and enriching the local community it serves.
