WHAT DOES THE FOUNDATION DO?

The Foundation supports many worthwhile activities which aid students’ progress.  Some examples are:

  • Newcastle Lord Mayor’s Arts Scholarship and Encouragement Awards – first awarded in 2004 to nurture young talent in their quest for excellence in all spheres of the arts including painting and drawing, music, drama, dance and writing.
  • Youth Encouragement Award – for an outstanding student who has overcome difficulties to succeed in a TAFE course.
  • Production of Faculty Medals for major Institute awards.

Student grants – available for students needing support for worthwhile activities which benefit Hunter TAFE and the community as well as the individual.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Some 55.000 students enrol at one of our fifteen campuses of TAFE NSW - Hunter Institute each year. Over a ten year period it can be seen that at such enrolments the Institute plays a significant role in the training and development of the majority of people in our community. You could say that “Nine out of ten people in the Hunter have done some form of study at our Hunter Institute!”

It is a very important role that the Institute performs in our community and one we value highly. Equally, it is just as important that all in our community have the opportunity to grow and develop their abilities through the services of the Institute.

The role of the Foundation is to help students achieve their goals through education and training at the Hunter Institute. There are many ways of achieving this but two main ways are:-

1.      The Foundation is the vehicle to administer funds given for prizes, awards, scholarships, and special grants to encourage higher performances by students.

2.      The Foundation also administers the funds donated for special projects, or general grants to assist and support students with genuine disadvantages and/or hardships.

With the former we have many success stories of students achieving local, national, and international recognition – a wonderful outcome for the Hunter. Of the latter we have students who with the needed support and encouragement from the Foundation, and others interested in helping students, have completed their courses – achieved their goals, and been part of a wonderful outcome for the Hunter.

The Foundation needs the ongoing support every person or organization that can identify with the aims of the Foundation to help students achieve their goals and aspirations.

I am delighted to be a part of this activity and hope you can find your own personal way to be part of it. It is a significant step in building a stronger and more capable Hunter Region Community.
