In July 2007 the NSW Government announced the formation of the Hunter Development Corporation through the merger of the Honeysuckle Development Corporation and the Regional Land Management Corporation. 
The Hunter Development Corporation will help facilitate economic growth in the region consistent with the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy. 
The Strategy projects that by 2031 the region will be home to an additional 160,000 people.  
The Hunter Development Corporation will be a key driver in the development and renewal required to meet this growing demand for jobs and homes.

Lake Macquarie Family Day is a provider of high quality childcare in the homes of registered and approved carers for more than 1000 children in the city.
Accredited with the National Childcare Accreditation Council and regulated by the NSW Department of Community Services, Lake Macquarie Family Day Care is a unique childcare option for families seeking child care for children aged up to twelve years.  The service also participates in the DOCS funded Brighter Futures program in partnership with the Samaritans.  Currently 110 registered carers provide flexible childcare in a home environment that encourages a partnership with families and promotes the individual development of each child.  Carers are supported by Coordination unit staff in a variety of ways including administration, training, home visits and playgroups.  Lake Macquarie Family Day Care is funded by Department of Family and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and sponsored by Lake Macquarie City Council.
