Hunter Manufacturing Engineering Skills Project Launch

The report of the Hunter Manufacturing and Engineering Skills Project (HMESP) was released on 17 July 2009. The report was officially launched by the Minister for the Hunter, the Hon Jodi McKay, at a function attended by key business representatives.

The HMESP research was co-sponsored by Hunter TAFE as a joint project with three of our closest business partners:  the HunterNet Co–operative of engineering companies; the University of Newcastle; and the Hunter office of the Australian Industry Group (AIG) – with matching funds from the NSW Department of State and Regional Development.

The objective of the HMESP inititiative was to identify new and emerging technologies that are being adopted by manufacturing and engineering businesses in the Hunter Region, and the required skills sets arising from those technologies.  The focus of the report is on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the report will inform planning for business development and skills provision into the future.

Hunter TAFE is working with the HMESP project partners, and with industry across the Hunter and Central Coast, to provide training solutions for sustainable economic and social growth.  Click here to view the report.
