
This course is suitable for School based trainees. This health services assistance qualification is designed to develop the knowledge and skills to work as a Health Services Assistant. At this level a Health Services Assistant provides support to the Registered Nurse in the acute care environment. In these types of jobs you will have direct client contact and work in consultation/collaboration with registered nurses and under direct or indirect supervisory arrangements in line with jurisdictional regulatory requirements. You will develop skills and knowledge to assist in the provision of client care and comfort for individuals and groups, to assist in the activities of living, to assist clients in meeting their basic human needs and observing and reporting changes in individual or group behaviours. Completion of this training will allow for employment as an assistant in nursing in public and private acute care, aged care / nursing home or health facilities. Students may attempt either the 240 indicative hours or 360 indicative hours course. Only students who have completed the 240 or 360 hours course will be eligible to sit for the optional HSC examination.
