Metal & Engineering (Boating Services) Certificate II (TVET)

metal workingHunter TAFE's boat building school qualification is for people who want to work in the recreational boating industry as a yard hand or marina hand. You will learn to maintain, service and repair boats and work safely in a marina, slipway, boatbuilding facility and marine dealership. This course provides a pathway for HSC school students to complete the 240 hour Board of Studies (BOS) endorsed Industry Curriculum Framework (ICF) HSC Metal and Engineering TVET course. By doing this course, it is possible to achieve MEM20305 Certificate II in Boating Services, depending upon the units chosen and achieved. Students will learn about the construction of various types of boats, from fiberglass vessels to the traditional wooden yacht. Career opportunities leading from this course include marina hand, general purpose yard hand in marina or slipway operation or small boat building facility or in a general boating or boating products retail organisation. Other opportunities may be accessible in the Metals and Engineering field as specified in the MEM05 Training Package.

Important Information

Industry Curriculum Framework Course: This course may count towards an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) if you study it for 2 years consecutively. You would then need to sit the HSC exam to be eligible for an ATAR.
