
Arborist training at Hunter TAFE is conducted in a simulated work environment to offer students the best training possible. Select this course if you are interested in arboriculture and looking to enter the horticulture industry as an assistant or if you intend to progress to a trade level qualification. You will learn about arboriculture and the work of arborists, including tree removal, tree services, tree climbing, pruning techniques, plant care and how to recognise plants, plant trees and shrubs, transplant small trees, operate and maintain chainsaws, fell small trees, remove stumps and determine the basic properties of soils. In conjunction with practical experience, the course enables you to develop the skills required to assist in cultivating, establishing, maintaining and caring for trees in public parks, housing estates and industrial complexes. Career opportunities that stem from this course include arboriculture assistant and tree surgeon. Upon completion of this course you can apply for advanced standing in Horticulture (Arboriculture) Certificate III or Horticulture Certificate III.
