This applied fashion design and technology course is for people looking for a job in the fashion industry at assistant level. Enrol to learn creative, practical and technical skills in being a designer, making patterns, production and using technology.
Choose to study textile, fibre and fabric identification and analysis of their characteristics; identifying design influences; sketching, and applying design elements and principles to fashion concept development; developing product specifications; patternmaking, grading and garment construction; block construction using sizing systems; calculating costs and communicating/selling design concepts; computer technology and specialist fashion software.
The training environment simulates work in the industry and is hands-on, allowing for creative expression in making fashion garments. Work placement with a fashion company or fashion designer is part of the course.
After completion, you may be eligible for higher Applied Fashion Design and Technology courses. Career options include assistant in design, product development, patternmaking, grading, specification development and CAD operations.
