
Hunter TAFE offers captive animal courses for people working in or wanting to work at a pre-trade level in places such as a zoo or wildlife park. Enrol in this captive animals certificate to learn about the management and daily care of a large variety of animals. These animal studies help you to prepare and present information to the community, assist with collection management, prepare and maintain housing, plan and provide nutritional diets, monitor and maintain animal health and wellbeing, restrain and assist in moving animals, monitor animal reproduction, and provide enrichment for animals. It's essential that during this course you have access to a captive animal workplace through paid employment or significant periods of work experience. On completion you may wish to enrol in Captive Animals Certificate IV or other qualifications. Careers that stem from this captive animals TAFE course include trainee keeper, assistant keeper, animal care attendant and wildlife carer.

Local Entry Requirements Preference will be given to those who have completed the Certificate II in Animal Studies or otherwise have the relevant competencies.
Preference will also be given to those either employed in the captive animal industry or who have arranged a suitable location for work placement. Delivery InformationStudents are expected to spend 1-2 days per week in a suitable captive animal facility, undertaking relevant duties in order to meet assessment requirements.
