TAFE NSW Hunter Institute

Switchgear and Controlgear

switchgear controlgear This switchgear and controlgear course is for people in relevant employment (an apprenticeship) who want to become an electrical fitter for the construction, assembly and wiring of switchboards and control panels. The course provides national competencies to enable you to maintain and carry out power device testing on high and low voltage switchgear, a circuit breaker and buswork in substations and large switchboards. This qualification meets the NSW Office of Fair Trading licensing requirements for issuing a Restricted Electrical Licence. This permits the holder to carry out the disconnection/reconnection of fixed low voltage electrical equipment on a "like for like" basis. You will learn the skills required to work as an electrical tradesperson (fitter) including control switch, current and fuse skills.
