This course covers the unit of competency HLTFA404B Apply advanced resuscitation
techniques with students needing to complete a first aid course as a
prerequisite.
This course provides you with the knowledge and skills to apply advanced
resuscitation techniques. These techniques include preparation of resuscitation
equipment for use, applying bag and mask resuscitation technique, attaching and
operating an automated external defibrillator (AED), administering oxygen,
operating suction equipment and restoring and maintaining equipment ready for
future use.
You will need to have achieved one of the following related competency units:
- HLTFA301C Apply first aid - HLTCPR201B Perform CPR, or - HLTFA201B Provide emergency life support.
It is recommended that people using advanced resuscitation techniques will also have completed HLTFA301C Apply first aid.
ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency such as HLTFA301C Apply first aid, you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills, you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.
