
Hunter TAFE offers a variety of first aid courses aimed at people who want to help in an emergency by applying first aid. Enrol in this first aid training and learn to assess the situation, apply necessary first aid procedures and communicate details of the incident to specialised authorities, such as ambulance officers. Expectant entrants must demonstrate the ability to perform basic life-support skills, such as control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
A first aid Statement of Attainment will be awarded to successful students who show ability to manage casualties with a range of injuries or illnesses, and who can provide basic life support or other emergency care. The statement of attainment issued upon completion of this course is a recognised level by WorkCover NSW for purposes in the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001.
Graduates can seek work as a first aid officer in a range of industries, or in their current workplace.
People who have a disability that would prevent them from performing required basic life support skills are advised thhat they will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.
