Hunter TAFE's welding courses are for people seeking the necessary training to work as a manual metal arc welder (MMAW) in the metal fabrication industry or similar. Through combining TAFE training and/or on-the-job work experience, people enrolling in this welding training will learn both basic welding and advanced metal welding practices, testing and welding inspection. By the end of the course, you will be able to fabricate a range of metal components by mastering industry-relevant, practical skills and techniques. You will be confident to join materials in all weld positions, including arc welding, heat, cut and gouge materials using hand tools, power tools, gas and equipment and be able to interpret engineering drawings. Learners will also develop knowledge of welding inspector activities. When you finish the training, you may be eligible to enrol in further related TAFE courses. Completion of TAFE welding courses at this level offers career progression under the Federal Metal and Engineering Industries Award.
