Conditions of Employment 

Salary
An attractive salary package is available plus employers contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
 
Leave
Four weeks annual recreation leave plus seven weeks (paid) agreed weeks of non attendance.
 
Extended Leave is provided at the rate of 44 working days at the end of ten years continuous service then a further 11 days for each completed year after 10 years.

Hours of Duty
Full-time teachers work a 35 hour week which includes 20 hours per week teaching and 15 hours per week duties related to teaching.
 
Roles and Responsibilities 
The key roles and responsibilities for teachers are to:  
•  Perform the teacher role in the most effective manner.
•  Provide assistance in the development of curriculum, teaching methods and resources.
•  Perform those administrative duties associated with their teaching.
•  Ensure the principles of equal opportunity in education and employment are applied to all staff and students, including the prevention of overt and covert discriminatory practices.
•  Be involved in and assist as required within the corporate life of the Campus and Institute.
•  Advise and assist students to develop their educational programs and make them aware of the facilities the Institute provides.
•  Provide advice and assistance to students, employers and members of the community and generally promote Vocational, Technical and Further Education.
•  Be responsible for self professional development.
•  Ensure the principles ethical practice and other legislative requirements including commitment to the principles of cultural diversity in education and employment are applied to all staff and students.

Selection Criteria 
The common core selection criteria for a TAFE teacher are:
•  Minimum formal (educational) requirements that are necessary for the effective performance in the relevant teacher position, or as required by legislation or industrial instruments; and qualifications that are necessary in order to work in the industry or occupation relevant to the discipline area, where prescribed by a government, industry or professional body.
•  Two years current (post degree) five years (post trade) or equivalent industrial/ vocational experience.
•  Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Part-time Casual and Temporary TAFE Teacher positions).
•  High level written and oral communication skills in English.
•  Demonstrated commitment to maintaining professional currency.
•  Proven ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of educational, industrial or community environments.
•  Commitment and ability to facilitate learning in an adult environment.
•  Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service.
•  Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team environment.
•  Proven strengths in problem solving and change management.
•  Demonstrated organisational skills applicable to an educational setting.
 
Are you interested in part-time casual teaching employment? 
Salary: Teaching Duties $69.84 per hour, Coordination/Consultancy Duties $65.66 per hour, Duties Other Than Teaching $55.15 per hour.
If you have worked as a Part Time Casual Teacher for Hunter TAFE within the previous two years and still have the relevant qualifications and experience required to teach the specific course, subject or module you do not need to reapply

Temporary Teaching Opportunities 

Applications will be considered in order of priority as follows:
 
(i) applicants who meet the service requirements to be considered as a “long serving part-time casual teachers and/or TAFE Temporary Teachers” (as defined below), through service within TAFE NSW Hunter Institute; then

(ii) applicants who meet the service requirements to be considered as “long serving part-time casual teachers and/or TAFE Temporary Teachers” (as defined below), partly through service in TAFE NSW Hunter Institute and partly through service in other Institutes; then

(iii) applicants who meet the service requirements to be considered as “long serving part-time casual teachers and/or TAFE Temporary Teachers” (as defined below), through service in one Institute (other than Hunter Institute); then

(iv) all other applicants, including external applicants. 
 
For the purpose of (i) to (iii) above, applicants will qualify as a “long serving part-time casual teacher and/or TAFE Temporary Teacher”  where they have worked as a part-time casual teacher and/or TAFE Temporary Teacher for 240 hours or more (on average) for two consecutive years or more, as at the closing date of application.  Service must be rendered in the relevant Institute or Institutes as specified (i) to (iii) above.
